On April 19th "Dog Rescue Newcastle" put out an urgent plea. A dog by the name of Taz who had been picked up as a stray and was stuck in Wyong Pound, he needed urgent foster care.
Even though the lovely people who found him couldn't keep him as they live in a no-pet apartment they had extended his time a great deal. However, he had been stuck in the pound for a shocking 5 weeks. Out of all the dogs I have seen I just had to do something for this fellow, listed as a 1 year old kelpie x (possibly staffy?); he was like the kelpie version of Emmy.

With a quick phone call to my partner for approval I put my hand up to foster this fellow. With some more arranging thanks to Becky and Graham and the "Dog Rescue Newcastle" group it was set for him to arrive on Friday 22nd at lunch time. Friday was also my son's birthday (as well as my horses) so there was already arrangements for a few family members to come for lunch. With a few concerned words with the sudden announcement I assured everyone it would all go smoothly and waited on Taz's arrival. Thanks to Graham for driving him all the way here he arrived safe and sound.
Instantly Emmy and Taz became acquainted. Within the minute he entered the gate everyone adored him with his whole tail/bum wiggle. My partner gave me that "can he stay" look within minutes. Even after all he has been through he seemed to have come in and touch everyone's hearts, with no aggressive behavior towards Emmy, the cat, three chooks, two horses my two kids and the extra people here. He had just slotted in place with no trouble at all.

Even though he is aprox a year old he obviously had no training and appeared to not have any clue about a bath or a dog kennel let alone a walk on the leash. He still greated everyone with a whole lot of love to give. He then needed one of my "fancy collars" which he now wears very well. He has even quickly picked up on basic commands in less than a week.
So with much thought and consideration with taking on another dog full time. I realized we would be silly (or maybe I'm a little selfish) to want to part with this dog. He has a lot of potential to shine and shine he does.
So a big thank you to everyone involved and everyone's support in saving Taz and many other animals in need. Dog Rescue Newcastle do an amazing job but they can't do it alone. However here is one success story and one grateful dog.
Taz can now be proudly called a "Foster Failure".
Anyone able should consider giving Fostering a go at least once. With the wonderful support this group gives whether its a dog or a cat how could you say no. With no obligations to keep them you will have saved an animal from death row just by sharing your home, a little love and a little food until they find a "Forever Home". These wonderful groups like "Dog Rescue Newcastle" can't save these animals without the support of foster carers. They deserve any help they can get. Anyone also considering adopting can be assured they will be matched up with the best possible pet as foster carers already know the animals personality.
For if it wasn't for this lovely group and wonderful people like Becky and Graham, Taz would not be here today. He shows the true meaning of what life is all about even after what he has gone through in his early start in life.
Unfortunatly too many dogs like Taz slip under the radar and have there lives ended far too short without the chance to love and be loved. I will still never know how such a lovely boy ended so close to death row but unfortunatly many aren't so lucky.

Taz now has his forever home here, along with Emmy who was adopted from "dog rescue newcastle" in 2008. They wouldn't be here without this group.
So from all of us we thank you again!
